...Reflection on Tuesdays with Morrie film: “Life Reassessment, Love over Money, and Happiness over Success” When I was watching the film, I had no idea about its plot because unlike my classmates who have read the book, they know about it and that they would like to watch the film. Me, since I have no background of the movie, I think it’s kind of boring and I was ambivalent in watching it because I might not like the film. The film started with Morrie, a professor in a university who loves dancing and eating. He suffered from ALS, an incurable disease that ravages his body slowly from his foot to his upper body. He has a friend and former student Mitch who wanted to become a musician but abandoned that dream. Mitch had financial success and material wealth but he is unhappy. He has been working a lot and he finds little time for his girlfriend, Janine. Every Tuesday, Mitch visits Morrie and Morrie teaches Mitch about things in life. For me, the teaching that Morrie gave to Mitch that has a huge impact on me is that Mitch needs to reassess his life, value love over money, and happiness over success. I know that I do love my family and I prioritize them, but sometimes, money is something that I wish to have and that I think that I would be happy if I become rich and successful in life because it is my goal. I just realized that I don’t want to be like Mitch who became wealthy but he finds little time for his girlfriend Janine, whom he really loves. I don’t want to...

I never thought that there could be a piece of literature that could take such strong hold on my heart, especially for this length of time. Tuesdays with Morrie is my favorite class I ever audited. Mitch Albom writes the true account of the teachings of his favorite professor, Morrie Schwartz. Mitch was a student of Dr. Schwartz at Brandeis University and lost touch after graduating. Unbeknownst to Mitch, Morrie continued teaching social psychology until he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Mitch, watching TV in his home, flipping through the channels, and stopped when he recognized the voice of his old beloved Professor. That episode of Nightline was how Mitch and Morrie reunited. The last class Morrie will have taught “met on Tuesdays. It began after breakfast. The subject was The Meaning of Life. It was taught from experience” (Albom, 2002). The text develops as the weeks pass on, as Morrie’s body withers away, as the reader learns about the beautiful and unique relationship between teacher and student, and as we find ourselves inspired by the process. This text is not only a memorial to a great man in the author’s life, but also a guide on how to be a better person, how to live with love, and how to follow your dreams. The topics discussed include the world, feeling sorry for yourself, regrets, death, family, emotions, fear of aging, money, about how love goes on, marriage, culture, forgiveness, and the perfect day.

When my parents first told me that it would be a good idea for me to read Tuesdays With Morrie, my perception of the memoir was that it was an account of an old man dying. This did not seem, to me, to be the most interesting topic to read about. I reluctantly began the book and soon became quite involved with the novel’s insightful progression. I initially thought I would construct a typical review of the novel and hand it in for a good grade. I then asked myself if I would learn anything by writing a summary. Two answers became evident. The first was that, of course, I would learn how to write yet another book report. The second was that I would not benefit at all from simply summarizing the memoir. I came to the conclusion that by focusing my paper on that which Morrie so eloquently taught the reader, both me and my teacher would gain insight and understanding about to it’s fullest.
